TRAIL RUNNING
Tsuyoshi Kaburaki
In 2009 Tsuyoshi Kaburaki won 3rd place at the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB), a 166km ultramarathon race through three countries. The same year he came in 2nd in the Western States Endurance Run (commonly known as Western States 100). Even at 50, he is still one of the world’s top ranking trail runners. The documentary of his run at the UTMB by NHK, Japanese national broadcasting organization, triggered a boom of popularity of trail running in Japan. On top of competing, Kaburaki also holds lectures, workshops and directs races to promote racing in Japan. He is also the chair of the Ultra-Trail Mt. Fuji (UTMF), sister sport event of UTMB and first ever official 100 mile race in Asia.
